Y3K FILM PROJECT
2022
Y3K is a dystopian sci-fi film by YWCA KL's Youth Wing, created with students and graduates of YWCA KL's Vocational Training Opportunity Centre. The film concludes a 2022 program which equipped students for the New Normal through content creation, vocational skills, and environmental awareness in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
STARBUCKS UPCYCLED FLAVORLOCK POUCH
2022
The Starbucks Upcycled Flavorlock Pouch Project is a collaboration between YWCA KL and the CSR Department of Starbucks Malaysia which aims to reduce negative impact on the environment while empowering underprivileged communities with income generating opportunities.
Flavor-lock coffee bags from Starbucks are combined with remnant fabrics and upcycled into useful pouches instead of contributing to landfill waste. The materials are processed by the Sewing & Tailoring students of YWCA KL’s Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC) as part of a social enterprise initiative which provides them income-generating opportunities towards inculcating financial independence.
They are then sewn by members of the B40 community who are trained by YWCA KL to make the pouches. The sewers receive steady income to supplement their family’s livelihood while playing a role in using their skills to conserve the environment.
The project brings together volunteers from YWCA KL and Starbucks, creating a diverse community working towards a culture of environmental awareness and the power of social work.
Open sessions are available to the general public to participate and learn about the upcycling process.

SPIRIT OF THINGS:
COMMUNITY UPCYCLING PROJECT
2021
Spirit of Things is an advocacy video project intended to address the impact human activities are having on the environment, while offering viable solutions that society can accept and adopt. A collaboration with Project SEA*5, YWCA KL's Vocational Training Opportunity Centre and other local creatives, and co-funded by Mekong Cultural Hub and British Council, SOT is part of YWCA KL's aim to engage global issues with a larger community.
Themes of upcycling and social enterprise are explored as a means to reduce consumption by reusing or repurposing materials, giving them a second life. In line with the New Normal - the rise of entertainment inclusion into video content necessary in an online world, and to promote this philosophy among mainstream society, mainstream media are selected as a medium of communication.
A music video and documentary was conceptualized which features a collection of contemporary upcycled streetwear and accessories.

THE ROGUE FESTIVAL 2019
The Rogue Festival was a call for youth to pick up arms towards conscious service which demonstrates the power of the people, the possibilities of creativity and social enterprise towards reimagining environment and empowering communities.
It was organised in collaboration with Eats Shoots & Roots, funded by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, and was part of Urbanscapes 2019.
The festival featured a cottage industry upcycle-themed bazaar, creative makeover studios, a pop-up Salon, fashion costume house, instagram booths, workshops, live demo sessions, fashion parade, and craft jams.
Farm-To-Table Lunch and High Tea sessions were organised by Eats Shoots & Roots via an Urban Farm Cook-Off featuring ingredients derived from VTOC Urban Farm.
A campaign music video "Greater: Rogue Nation Rising" was filmed featuring Juwita Suwito & Friends with hair, makeup and costumes done by VTOC students and graduates.
