SELECTED PROJECTS

Y3K FILM PROJECT
2022

Y3K is a dystopian sci-fi film by YWCA KL's Youth Wing, created with students and graduates of YWCA KL's Vocational  Training Opportunity Centre. The film concludes a 2022 program which equipped students for the New Normal through content creation, vocational skills, and environmental awareness in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

STARBUCKS UPCYCLED FLAVORLOCK POUCH
2022

The Starbucks Upcycled Flavorlock Pouch Project, a collaboration between YWCA KL and Starbucks Malaysia aims to reduce landfill waste while supporting underprivileged communities. Disposed coffee bags and remnant fabrics are sewn into useful pouches by women from the B40 community, providing them with valuable income for their families while promoting sustainability. The project unites volunteers from both organizations to foster environmental awareness and social responsibility.

SPIRIT OF THINGS:
COMMUNITY UPCYCLING PROJECT
2021

Spirit of Things is an advocacy video project by YWCA KL and partners, including Project SEA*5, that highlights the environmental impact of human activity while exploring creative solutions. Supported by Mekong Cultural Hub and the British Council, it engages wider audiences on global issues. The project explores the potential of upcycling to reduce consumption. It includes a music video and documentary showcasing upcycled streetwear and accessories in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

THE ROGUE FESTIVAL
2019

The Rogue Festival called on youth to engage in conscious service, showcasing creativity and social enterprise to support the environment and communities. Organized with Eats Shoots & Roots and funded by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, it was part of Urbanscapes 2019. The event featured an upcycling bazaar, creative studios, workshops, performances, and an urban farm cook-off. It also included a campaign music video, “Greater: Rogue Nation Rising,” featuring Juwita Suwito & Friends, with styling by VTOC students and graduates.
