Founded in 1913, YWCA Kuala Lumpur has been serving women and girls for over a century. We are committed to creating opportunities for women from all walks of life, regardless of race, religion, culture, language, or socio-economic background to grow with dignity, confidence, and purpose.
What We Do
Empowering Women & Girls Since 1913
YWCA Kuala Lumpur’s work spans accommodation, community spaces, and vocational training - all designed to support women and girls in practical and meaningful ways.
WOMEN-FRIENDLY HOSTEL
We provide safe, affordable accommodation for women in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Our hostels offer a supportive environment for short and long-term stays, while contributing directly to the sustainability of YWCA KL’s programs.
EVENT SPACES
Our halls, meeting rooms, and creative spaces are used for workshops, training sessions, community activities, and private events. These spaces support learning, collaboration, and social connection within a safe and inclusive setting.
Our History
YWCA Kuala Lumpur is part of a global women’s movement that began in the United Kingdom in 1855, inspired by Emma Roberts and Mary Jane Kinnaird. What started as a simple idea — a safe hostel for women coming into the city — grew into an international network dedicated to empowerment, safety, and opportunity for women everywhere.
Today, YWCA KL continues this legacy through meaningful community initiatives, including:

Through these programs and our women-friendly hostel, we strive to create safe spaces, practical support, and real opportunities for women and girls to thrive.
Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC)
The VTOC is a core part of YWCA KL’s mission. Established in 1998 to support underprivileged young women and girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the VTOC provides essential skills training aimed at improving employability and self-reliance for meaningful participation in the workforce and community.
The VTOC focuses on helping women and girls to:

Develop leadership skills and the courage to create positive change
The VTOC reflects YWCA KL’s belief in long-term empowerment through education, skills and opportunity.
